SYROS

Explore the Aegean Paradise

Ermoupoli

The majestic neoclassical architecture, the fervor and reminiscence of the first industrial era of Greece, and the medieval Cycladic village of Ano Syros, all come together to create a unique and charismatic union in the Aegean Sea. The Municipality streets and Miaouli Square of Hermoupoulis are sprawling with old marble and neoclassical buildings designed by renowned architect Ernst Ziller in the late 19th century.

The historic town of Hermoupolis, named after the Greek god Hermes who protected travelers, merchants, and orators, is the ideal destination for a carefree holiday full of spontaneous day trips to the island’s authentic villages and beaches.

Apollon Theater

The Apollo Theatre is designed as an exactly downsized copy of the Teatro Alla Scala of Milan, the impressive neoclassical manors are always competing in charisma, the cobble-stoned alleys interchange with the limestone-paved streets, and all this is framed by the deep blue sea that surrounds this old town.

Cultural Activities

Throughout the whole year but especially during the summer, Syros becomes the focal point of many cultural activities and in case you want to, you can choose between visual exhibitions, theater, opera, classical music festivals, guitar festivals, tributes to rebetiko music which is an island tradition, photography exhibits, accordion festivals, animated film festivals and, of course, SIFF, the Syros film festival, which showcases movies in the most unexpected and charming spots of the island.
